Cheongsam Aficionados
We love how these girls are donned in these designer cheongsams by Mazzario by Mimi. Cheongsam is sexy because the fabric is suggestive without going overboard. What's more, the different types of cuts and laces give women a more sophiscated look.

Reyna Chinese knot Cheongsam for Felicia
Wearing the made-to-measure Amplified Reyna Cheongsam is Felicia who has kindly let us have a photo of her taken during one of the fittings.
(If you have been to our Centrepoint shop for fitting, do you recognize these fuchsia bow sandals on her feet, we think it is a perfect match.)

We crafted entirely by hand, the collar, sleeves and shoulder in a reimagined Chinese frog button, in one tone brighter in each of the three colours present of the imperial blue Chinese silk brocade with green and pink florals. The hand-crafted shoulder piece is hollow, it allows the natural skin tone to shine through but an entirely different style from the lace. Instead, together we created cheongsam that is fun, but not casual; formal but youthful. A truly modern Singapore take on tradition.
Also seen custom made for Annie in a grungy combination of pink, turquoise and beige.

Red Evening Cheongsam with 2 Laces for Aileen

Crimson red is a colour between red and rose, originally produced from an insert which lends a bluish tint to the bright and deep red. There seems to be 2 camps when it comes to the colour red—Love or hate, need we elaborate? Recently there have been more brides opting for red cheongsams this year, then we have ever done before. Yes, we believe the colour is contagious.
Shown here is another red modern cheongsam custom made for Aileen. The cheongsam is super slim from hips down to elongate the legs and add length to the silhouette, complemented by a very low back covered in very sparse translucent black lace which is flattering to her athletic build. Further more, a second layer of thick bold and larger floral lace, also in black, in applied on top of the first layer of lace to accentuate the toned back, and visually enhance the front.
The 2 layers of lace really added dimension and textural quality to the plain crimson red fabric, and the 2 strong colours of red and black plays well with each other making this a real eye-catcher. For brides wo fear you may blend into your sea of guests, fear no more.

A photo of Aileen and her then-husband-to-be now-husband, in Mazzario's Chinese silk mandarin jacket . The black and light pink combination really picks up the crimson red of Aileen's cheongsam very well, which tells us they are a couple, yet individuals.
Last but not least, congrats to you both, we had a great time working with you.

Lace Cheongsam In Turquoise for Janice

An elegant evening cheongsam, that's all Janice asked for. An active lady, she is very well proportioned, looks good in anything, and almost any cheongsam, leaving us with almost no problem to solve. This opens the door to a world of possibilities, too many possibilities sometimes.
After much discussion, both Janice and ourselves decided we should keep it simple with bold lace accents to further accentuate the proportion. The lace runs down only on one side of her legs which works with her very high heels for lengthening effect. The colour turquoise was chosen to complement her medium skin tone and also inject vibrancy into the very simple silhouette. Oh, did we tell you there is surprise opening on her waist which further emphasized her small waist, creating a perfect hourglass.
Beauty is never enough.
This is a variation of the simple white cheongsam with lace applique and an elegant plain cheongsam with beaded collar.

Wedding Cheongsam—For Ariel

Grandmothers used to say, if you are young and pretty, you will look good even in rags.
While rags for weddings may be reserved only for the adventurous indie bride, Ariel chose to have a very simple cheongsam that allows her personality and natural beauty to shine through.
The opened mandarin collar melts seamlessly into the rest of the cheongsam, together with the narrow opening further accentuated Ariel's height and slender frame. There really is nothing much to say about this minimalist cheongsam except for the custom beaded embroidery adorning the collar, framing the happy face for one of the most important days of her life, yet.
Cheongsams do not always have to be of the so-called cheongsam fabric with all the big vivid florals. Our modern cheongsams are for the contemporary forward thinking city-chic girls like you.

Amplified Chinese Knot Corded Cheongsam—For Annie

The Chinese knot is not only utilitarian, but has also become an art form on its own. We have used it on The Mystic Cheongsam, making use of a small Chinese knot at the typical and traditional position and grew around the bustier and the waist, framing the bodice part of the cheongsam.
In this Amplified Cheongsam made for Annie, we have crafted the upper part of the cheongsam, including the sleeves and the collar entirely of Chinese knots.

Unlike Mystic Cheongsam which is symmetrical and orderly, the Amplified Cheongsam is a little messy, slightly unkempt, breaking all the stereotypes of a cheongsam. The meticulously corded and twined and stitched was shaped bit by bit on dress form, and hand stitched carefully to the full length Chinese brocade cheongsam shaped bustier with high slits.
Annie said she never expected Cheongsam Qipao could be modern and grungy like this. How else would you like we to change your Qipao Cheongsam stereotype?

Wedding Cheongsam Gown—for Jessica

Many modern Asian Chinese brides are torn between tradition customs and urban lifestyle preference. They often settle for a gown less than satisfactory giving in to either side. Always optimistic, we helped Jessica and her family's expectations meet half-way.
While simple and sleek silhouette is her ideal, she feared her mother prefers traditional (Read: Red & gold sleeved full length cheongsam). Here at Mazzario we would not let you walk away depressed and old-fashioned.
We suggested a bright red gold and red Chinese Brocade fabric to be made into a simple silhouette, with additional lace applique, both to add sparkles as well as to visually slim the torso. The lace up keyhole back has room for adjustments, and makes for a cute bow at the back. The mermaid flare starts centre front at a v-point, and moves up gradually to mid-thigh at the back, creating curves while slimming the thighs.

Colourful Cloud Cheongsam for Stacy

Tradition and fun are not words that usually comes together. They however, mix very well in The Colour Cloud Cheongsam custom made to Stacy's wedding. Adventurous Stacy wanted to have a traditional qipao or cheongsam from the start, because she can't think of a better time to check off her wish list, yet, she frowns at the idea of granny's wardrobe.

She took a daring plunge into the choice of a very colourful chinese brocade. We then decided to make full use of the wonder cloud prints. Combined with a traditional way of enclosure, collar to waist over the bust, but with a twist. We cut around the clouds at the opening and at the hemline, then layered them one upon another, and then painstakingly piped them using the tradition Chinese technique. The sleeves were also made in layers, to echo the idea of clouds, as well as slimming the arms.To finish, we used the only colour of the rainbow that does not already exist on the fabric together with shimmering gold for the cording details.

Look at Stacy. She's so excited she couldn't still her hands. P.S. Check out her shoes. We have not seen a better match.

Draped Wrap Dress with Mandarin Collar—Hazelle

Don't we often crave to look good even for casual night out at the new swanky alfresco. Wine & Dine however does not always go well with the idea of looking good, especially in a traditionally suffocating cheongsam. Count on us to shake things up a little again, to change your idea of what a Qipao or chinese dress must be.
Bearing only in mind what cheongsam design is quintessentially and the hourglass figure it portrays, we ditched all other notions and present to you Hazelle.
Hazelle is a draped wrap dress with mandarin collar, ruched at the right areas to give the illusion of an hourglass. Yes, we said illusion, which means it really isn't what it appears to be.
The adjustable size and the elasticity makes it the perfect dress whether for a romantic night out fine-dining, or a day at your children's birthday party by the pool. A few pregnant ladies have already snapped Hazelle up as their new maternity tunic too. It will quickly become your go-to designer cheongsam for every unimaginable occasion.

Wedding Cheongsam—For Eileen

photos via Ambi Photography
A Singapore bride often has one too many things to take care of, the who-sits-where and the rest of wedding preparation is often a good enough replacement for pre-wedding diet regime.
Some brides, on the other hand, prefer a much simpler life. Shown here in gorgeous and narrative wedding day photos by Ambi Photography is a Singapore bride who prefers a much simpler life. One wedding dress for all.
The bride has a very clear idea of what a cheongsam should be. High mandarin collar, snugly fitted and high slits, as in Maggie Cheung in In the Mood for Love. A cheongsam she can wear during every of her wedding event, and even after, integrated into the wardrobe of her married life.
The tea ceremoney mini cheongsam with a very high mandarin collar looks washed in delicate blush pink lace from top down, covering the collar and the bare back, gradually fading away towards the waist. At the waist is where it begins to transform for the wedding dinner. A full skirt with inner soft tulle in cream to pink graduation is worn over the same cheongsam, at once more elegant and sophistication. To add more drama to the whole occasion, the cheongsam is finally attached with a sweeping soft train pulled together with a belt fastened with mandarin buttons. The finale sees the bride in a cheongsam that looks as good coming in as it is going out.

Toga Mini Cheongsam - Talia

Deviating from the elements of a Qipao or a traditional cheongsam—Talia—Toga Mini Cheongsam is calling out to the unconventional modern lady looking for a unique. Part of Mazzario's New Ready-to-Wear Cheongsam Collection, Comes in 3 colour variations of marine blue, champagne, and gunmetal. Not unlike the Telepyleia Toga Cheongsam, an asymmetrical toga cheongsam is the perfect piece to accentuate the décolletage and toned arms of the athletic build.
Metallic coated lace insert at the collar and thighs introduces visual lead ons, elongating the silhouette for a slimmer look. The very tapered fit combined with the thigh high front slit subtilely exudes just enough sex appeal. The marine blue and black Chinese Brocade shimmers a little in ambient lighting without being over the top. The Talia Toga Mini Cheongsam is appropriate for most dinner and dance occasions, including your next candle-lit dinner date.

Cheongsam with Beaded Embroidery Collar

A modern cheongsam need not always be asymmetrical or deconstructed, it can sometimes be simple yet not appear disrespectful for the occasion. A sleek plain cheongsam combined with just enough embellishment such as the intricate beaded-embroidery is far from old-fashion.
Here at Mazzario, we have modernized traditional oriental motifs, instead created a colourful and whimsical version with only beaded-embroidery and appears quirky and absolutely appropriate for all cocktail or semi-formal occasions. The weight of the thousands of beads helps the collar and not only helps the collar sit effortlessly, providing the signature structure of a Qipao without sacrificing in comfort.

Cheongsam and Nothing Less or More

A formal cheongsam for an international seminar is all that was on her mind when she came to us. An elegant lady of poise needs no further ornamental touch in our opinion, her grace finishes any cheongsam perfectly.
A traditional Chinese brocade fabric in iridescent white, shows a different colour in every angle, but all with pink tones to complement her cool-fair complexion. The only decorative element is a pink-toned semi-precious gemstone button at the collar to bring attention to her bright eyes. The cheongsam was cut full length, straight cut to convey the formality of the event. The cheongsam bares up to mid-back, just right to accentuate the small waistline, yet conservative as a Chinese ethnic dress in eyes of her foreign friends.

Colour Palette SS10

The SS10 Mazzario ready-to-wear sees a composed palette of quiet blues and shimmering greys with bursts of festive red tones.
No pastels. Contrast is provided by stark white background to many variation of fairly dense print, against medium to navy blue & black. The use of varying shine of different silver fabric accents the otherwise calming palette. Red appears in the form of a flower print, a lace overlay, a delicate Chinese button, or clean simple denim for the festive code.
Stay tuned, more pictures of our new range coming soon.

Molten Cheongsam

Ashley posted a gorgeous picture of herself in our black lace & satin petal silk brocade cheongsam, with detail shots and description.
This is also the cheongsam that kicked off the catwalk on the recent insing.com fashion show. The Molten Cheongsam is especially flattering for the petite. We noticed petite ladies tend to gravitate towards very simple -read: plain- cheongsam, as it is thought to minus the clutter on the very small body. Yet a plain cheongsam too plain for Ashley who prefers much more fun.
Our solution for her is a High bare back, Twist front lace, satin, and Chinese brocade Mini. Yes, so many materials in one, be shocked, but only by the the elegant result.
Available in Colours and sizes. Also made to order.
