Ready-to-Wear Cheongsam Collection

cheongsam collection

Use of Venetian-style Lace, texturized monotone Chinese brocade, metallic checks, gunmetal knit, all these seemingly unrelated fabric styles Mazzario has put together in the new ready-to-wear collection.

Silhouettes are still slim, with with a new ease that is quite unlike the skin-tight-fit we have been doing for so long. A contemporary cheongsam piece in liquid metal comes ruched and wrapped, the heavily paneled bustier looks every bit corset but is comfortable with elasticity.

In a palette of blue, red, champagne, and black, grey, white, there is a cheongsam for even casual days.

Mystic Cheongsam—Reinterpretted

mystic black open collar cheongsam
The intricate hand-cording on the Mystic Cheongsam in no time became Mazzario's signature work. Many have asked for it made into different versions of it, to suit different occasions and personalities. It has been used not only on Gold Foil Chinese Brocade for a wedding, but also combined with another signature of ours, the Empire Halter Mini Cheongsam.

The boldness of hand-cording detail has usually been applied to the high collared cheongsams to counterbalance the demure expression of a high collar cheongsam. This time, however, it is employed to introduce subtlety to the sexy low V-neck & V-back with mandarin collar. The meandering hand cording softens the edge of the harsh black brocade with just a dash of Chinese ethnicity called for in the inter-racial wedding it was commissioned for.

Mystic Hand-Corded Cheongsam

Mystic Cheongsam
Cheongsam is the undeniable epitome of extreme femininity and demureness. Think Maggie Cheung in the classic movie In the Mood For Love. To make things more complicated, the Cheongsam also has a  reputation of being the Chinese's equal of the Victorian corset, so form-fitting, so uncomfortable. Many of today's 'real' women have been frightened by such outdated stereotypes, it takes the courageous few to step out in line with us Mazzario to re-create the Chinese-femininity.

Not forgetting the strength, the perseverance, and the courageousness of women of all ages, here at Mazzario Cheongsam, we amplified the idea of traditional Chinese knots and buttons, and made it a feature on a daringly cut bareback halter mini cheongsam. The use of such bold detail completely transformed the personality of a traditional cheongsam, and instead speaks the language of a youthful, strong and contemporary women who respects tradition, and is unafraid of many ripples of change to come.

Cheongsam for Casual Summer Days

Cotton Printed Capsleeve
Cheongsams are not only for weddings and other formal events according to us—Mazzario. What about one for a Sunday brunch in the park? Great florals to brighten even the gloomiest days. Opt for the black or gold styles for alfresco dinners if you prefer a more casual look than the 2 versions of Honey Cheongsam we have introduced to you earlier on.

Cheongsam so optimistic, cooling, and cultured, what more does a modern lady in a concrete-jungle-pseudo-garden-city asks for?

Cheongsam and Nothing Less or More

white ange genny

A formal cheongsam for an international seminar is all that was on her mind when she came to us. An elegant lady of poise needs no further ornamental touch in our opinion, her grace finishes any cheongsam perfectly.

A traditional Chinese brocade fabric in iridescent white, shows a different colour in every angle, but all with pink tones to complement her cool-fair complexion. The only decorative element is a pink-toned semi-precious gemstone button at the collar to bring attention to her bright eyes. The cheongsam was cut full length, straight cut to convey the formality of the event. The cheongsam bares up to mid-back, just right to accentuate the small waistline, yet conservative as a Chinese ethnic dress in eyes of her foreign friends.

The Majesta Opened Collar Cheongsam

majesta
Opened Mandarin Collar, sleeveless lace front and back. Designed for customers seeking comfort without loosing the orientalism.

This adapted cheongsam is popular for mother-of-the-bride, who asks for it in other ' auspicious ' colours such as gold and maroon. Don't fret if you're young and have eyes on ' Majesta ', many young ladies love her as a semi formal cheongsam for business dinners.

We made it in 2 version. A tapered bottom, and a mermaid bottom. Available in other colours upon request.

Chrysanthemum Dress

chrysanthemumDress

It is a dress for designed for a green-themed dinner. Save for few lucky souls, green simply looks odd on Asian complexions.

I knew we needed the final touch of green embellishment right from the start. We worked backwards.

A simple close to skin-tone off-shoulder shift dress was the chosen canvas.

The client nominated chrysanthemum as the flower of choice for the custom embroidery dress. Chrysanthemum is not to be generalised as petals in tea, but come in varied shapes and colours. I must have embarrassed myself for not concealing my excitement at the perfect excuse for spending time in the garden on a lazy afternoon.

On closer observation, chrysanthemum only got more interesting. I was especially eager to interpret the petals of the delicate flower. Each petal has life of its own. It reaches high for the sky, yet refrained, reminding one again of the ephemerality of a flower.

I must be thinking to much. Anyway what we have is a green chrysanthemum flower dress.

Poppy Dress

poppy dress

The brief was a cheongsam with red & black floral embroidery. We weren't too sure what the client was expecting, but we gave it a shot.

We begin by tailoring a crisp cheongsam ( or so it was supposed to be ). The stiffened fabric ( which we do not use on ready-to-wear ) made the look very clean, very modern, and we knew instantly the collar should be done away with to preserve it's simplicity.

Flowers. Red. Roses. Boring. What about poppies? I have been very blessed with an open-minded client for her openess to my varied experiments. Disregarding poppy's sometimes negative connotations, she expressed sheer delight with a different kind of embroidery.

The result is avant garde, but very wearable. A happy dress.

Lazy Dress

Some of you asked, and many would have guessed, we are currently preparing new designs for our beautiful ladies.

Above is a kimono inspired dress. Side-zipped for convenience. Flattering and comfortable. Be unexpectedly oriental chic on a lazy summer day.

Knot Babydoll Dress

knotBabydoll

Babydoll-style dress dates back to the Tang dynasty, in which women wore clothes with less coverage than the dynasties that that preceded or followed. Them, fabric is cinched directly below the bust, one of the earliest forms of empire-style.

We adapted the idea and introduced slight gathers on the 2 tiered dress, creating a slight flounce, and end off with a double layer Chinese knot on the panelled bodice.
