Lena Lace Applique Cheongsam

blue lace applique cheongsam
Lena is created in a non-stretchable lustre shine thick satin. The lace is hand cut to not only conform to the curves of a woman, but also to accentuate them.

It is recommended for tea ceremony, company dinner and dance, or any occasion which calls for understated glamour and class.

We think of Lena Lace Applique Cheongsam as a cousin of Lauren Lace Mini Cheongsam. They have similar attributes such as satin, lace, and slim cut, but different personalities.

Lena visits museums; Lauren Parties. Lena smiles; Lauren laughs. Which one are you?

Available made-to-order, in blue and red as seen above or in other colour combinations.

A simple silhouette with a a halter neck bareback, no slits for a even closer fit to highlight those legs.

We made Lauren in Onyx Black on Nude or Cherry Red on Fuschia. It is ready to wear, available in sizes, and already flying off the shelves.

Keyhole Lace Mini with Lace Applique for Sherlyn

Mini Cheongsam with keyhole & black lace applique
Mini cheongsams, or some may say "those tiny-Chinese-dress", have 1 of the cuts customers keep coming back to Mazzario for. Slowly we realise we seem to have many, many petite customers. Whether slim or small built, our mini cheongsam is particularly flattering on the petite ladies.

This particular cheongsam custom made for Sherlyn with a very cut in halter collar which delicately hangs over the neck, and plunges low at the back, and just enough front slit for allure and movement. A little black lace in a very graphic circular print off sets the angular cut of the cheongsam.

This cutting is particularly flattering for the apple body type as well as the athletic column body type.

Red Evening Cheongsam with 2 Laces for Aileen

Aileen's crimson red mermaid cheongsam with 2 types of laces
Crimson red is a colour between red and rose, originally produced from an insert which lends a bluish tint to the bright and deep red. There seems to be 2 camps when it comes to the colour red—Love or hate, need we elaborate? Recently there have been more brides opting for red cheongsams this year, then we have ever done before. Yes, we believe the colour is contagious.

Shown here is another red modern cheongsam custom made for Aileen. The cheongsam is super slim from hips down to elongate the legs and add length to the silhouette, complemented by a very low back covered in very sparse translucent black lace which is flattering to her athletic build. Further more, a second layer of thick bold and larger floral lace, also in black, in applied on top of the first layer of lace to accentuate the toned back, and visually enhance the front.

The 2 layers of lace really added dimension and textural quality to the plain crimson red fabric, and the 2 strong colours of red and black plays well with each other making this a real eye-catcher. For brides wo fear you may blend into your sea of guests, fear no more.

Couple in mandarin attire

A photo of Aileen and her then-husband-to-be now-husband, in Mazzario's Chinese silk mandarin jacket . The black and light pink combination really picks up the crimson red of Aileen's cheongsam very well, which tells us they are a couple, yet individuals.

Last but not least, congrats to you both, we had a great time working with you.

Gold Chinese Silk Cheongsam with Gold Lace Overlay

Gold Chinese Silk Brocade with Lace Overlay

For you who are familiar with Mazzario Cheongsam, you would know that Chinese Silk Brocade is one of our favorite fabrics to work with. Be it a classic Tea Dress with double trimming or the fashion-forward customer favourite Empire Halter Mini Cheongsam; the Talia Toga Cheongsam or the Mystic Corded Mini Cheongsam we constantly strive to revive the beautful traditional fabric to it's former glory.

Honey Cheongsam Dress in Custom Colour Mazzario Cheongsam Talia Toga Mystic Cheongsam with Hand Knotted Cords

Here comes the bride who just like almost every girl and even more so bride-to-be out there ( or here!), can't give up the love for the delicacy and glamour that lace fabric lends, even to a cheongsam.

Yet, a cheongsam carries with it the many burdens of its important role in Chinese period dramas and Wong Kar Wai's movie In The Mood For Love.

Gold Chinese Silk Brocade with Lace Overlay

Of the greedy nature that we sometimes deny, we would not refuse combination of the two for this bridal cheongsam. Afterall, Singapore is all about fusion-everything. See for yourself how the golden lace overlay glimmers on the traditional cream coloured brocade with traditional florals. Fully lined in red just for that extra dose of Chinese auspiciousness, even on the inside.

Lace Bareback Mini Cheongsam

lace mini
The lace mini cheongsam is a new hit for tea ceremony and dinner reception...
The slit is made lower than usual, making it more convenient for tea ceremony which this cheongsam is often purchased for.

The red lace mini cheongsam is a good choice for the Cantonese brides whose parents are still nagging at you for not wearing a Kwa ( which we do as well but that is another post ). Available in a shade of red for every skintone -- red crimson, vermilion, wine -- with gold embroidery. Being traditional doe not mean unfashionable.

Also in gold, champagne, and white. Additional beading can be done upon request.

Lace Cheongsam In Turquoise for Janice

Turquoise Cheongsam for Janice
Turquoise Cheongsam for Janice

An elegant evening cheongsam, that's all Janice asked for. An active lady, she is very well proportioned, looks good in anything, and almost any cheongsam, leaving us with almost no problem to solve. This opens the door to a world of possibilities, too many possibilities sometimes.

After much discussion, both Janice and ourselves decided we should keep it simple with bold lace accents to further accentuate the proportion. The lace runs down only on one side of her legs which works with her very high heels for lengthening effect. The colour turquoise was chosen to complement her medium skin tone and also inject vibrancy into the very simple silhouette. Oh, did we tell you there is surprise opening on her waist which further emphasized her small waist, creating a perfect hourglass.

Beauty is never enough.

This is a variation of the simple white cheongsam with lace applique and an elegant plain cheongsam with beaded collar.

Wedding Cheongsam Gown—for Jessica

Red & Gold Brocade Mermaid Gown with Gold Lace Applique
Red & Gold Brocade Mermaid Gown with Gold Lace Applique
Many modern Asian Chinese brides are torn between tradition customs and urban lifestyle preference. They often settle for a gown less than satisfactory giving in to either side. Always optimistic, we helped Jessica and her family's expectations meet half-way.

While simple and sleek silhouette is her ideal, she feared her mother prefers traditional (Read: Red & gold sleeved full length cheongsam). Here at Mazzario we would not let you walk away depressed and old-fashioned.

We suggested a bright red gold and red Chinese Brocade fabric to be made into a simple silhouette, with additional lace applique, both to add sparkles as well as to visually slim the torso. The lace up keyhole back has room for adjustments, and makes for a cute bow at the back. The mermaid flare starts centre front at a v-point, and moves up gradually to mid-thigh at the back, creating curves while slimming the thighs.

Handmade Button Keyhole Cheongsam—Abi

Mazzario Cheongsam Abi Buttoned Lace Front
Many of our local Singaporean customers fear a cheongsam is too dressy, or too tight to be worn to less formal occasions. Our new ready-to-wear collection serves to break these stereotypes. Following the last introduction of a sexy toga cheongsam—Talia, is a buttoned front bare-back lace & printed cotton cheongsam.

The edgy swirl print echoes the venetian lace perfectly. In addtion, the handmade Mandarin buttons and keyhole feature on the front injects a sense of primness and elegance to the otherwise playful combination.

Comfortable in tropical weather, sexy, playful and elegant, maybe you can really have it all.

Cheongsam Dress Style for Pear-Shape—Part 2

How to choose a designer cheongsam for your body type is one of the most common inquiries we get receive in email. Following last week's Cheongsam Dress Style for Pear-Shape—Part 1 in which we talked about a common tactic of Hide & Conceal, we continue to explore a second method of choosing a Qipao, a Cheongsam or any tight fitting dress styles.

Cheongsam Styles for Pear-Shape

Distract & Balance

Many petite, especially Asian ladies are challenged by the Hide & Conceal Solution. Too much fabric easily drowns the small stature, or may be inapproriate for events that calls for a dress code that is sleek and simple. In such cases, Distract & Balance is a great alternative.

Sleeves such as that in Image 3: Diamond Capsleeve Lace Cheongsam is a common tool for balance. It should however be chosen with care, inot oversized compared to your frame, paying special attention to shoulder and chest width. Sleeve style is also important. The decision to pick a Dolman, leg of mutton, bell or tulip has to be a cautious one. Overdo it, and risk looking like Tarzan.

Draw the eyes up and outwards, with an element that stands out from the rest, such as a unique lace applique shown in Image 5: Fall Cheongsam, or paneled detailing that directs the eyes to the centre and towards the collar as in Image 8.

Another way of balancing is by adding volume to the upper body. Image 6: Honey Cheongsam Dress with it's voluminous ruching easily balances the heavy lower body. Image 7: Molten Cheongsam spots an interesting twist front design over a translucent layer of lace, drawing the eyes upwards. We guarantee no one will ever pay attention to what comes below.

Enough for now, let us tell you more about the last cheongsam solution to the pear-shape in the next article.

Molten Cheongsam

ashley in mazzario's black lace petal cheongsam
Ashley posted a gorgeous picture of herself in our black lace & satin petal silk brocade cheongsam, with detail shots and description.

PhotobucketThis is also the cheongsam that kicked off the catwalk on the recent insing.com fashion show.

The Molten Cheongsam is especially flattering for the petite. We noticed petite ladies tend to gravitate towards very simple -read: plain- cheongsam, as it is thought to minus the clutter on the very small body. Yet a plain cheongsam too plain for Ashley who prefers much more fun.

Our solution for her is a High bare back, Twist front lace, satin, and Chinese brocade Mini. Yes, so many materials in one, be shocked, but only by the the elegant result.

Available in Colours and sizes. Also made to order.

The heavy weight embroidery lace does a great job in hugging those curves while hiding the flaws. Open front collar gives the option of both open or closed for different occasions. The simplicity of the design simply underlines sophistication and elegance.

Fall Cheongsam in Electrify

Fall Cheongsam in Electrify
The Fall Cheongsam has been in our made to order collection for a while. It is the lesser known sister of the Petals Cheongsam. Upon numerous customer requests, we are finally making a very limited number in ready-to-wear. First in the series—Electrify.

Electrify is turquoise lace on iridescent Chinese brocade. One moment it looks harmoniously blue, another, it looks highly contrasting. Sometimes the lace floral into the brocade seamlessly, sometimes it looks like lace applique popping out of the traditional fabric.

Enough said, you have to see it for yourself. But this is not for everyone, only for the discerningly quirky.

Melissa in full length Lena Lace Applique cheongsam

Lena Lace Cheongsam previously blogged about in a shorter knee-length version is custom made for Melissa for her tea ceremony in full length. While the design remains unchanged, it is sleeker as the lace coverage is proportionally smaller, adding just enough auspicious red for the traditional Chinese ceremony without sacrificing style.
