Cheongsam Aficionados
We love how these girls are donned in these designer cheongsams by Mazzario by Mimi. Cheongsam is sexy because the fabric is suggestive without going overboard. What's more, the different types of cuts and laces give women a more sophiscated look.

Feminine and Oriental Cheongsam
The cheongsam as each embellishment and detail is hand-sewn with painstaking precision. Editor June Wong had her cheongsam customised at MAZZARIO by Mimi. Designer Mimi Luk is trained in Shanghainese tailoring, and known for her flattering cuts and designs. June wants her dream fock to be feminine and oriental. She decided to customise a cheongsam. "I need something that is elegant," say June. "Plus, I don't love to wear a lot of accessories. So I hope to wear my dream dress as it makes enough of a statement on its own."

Melissa in full length Lena Lace Applique cheongsam
Lena Lace Cheongsam previously blogged about in a shorter knee-length version is custom made for Melissa for her tea ceremony in full length. While the design remains unchanged, it is sleeker as the lace coverage is proportionally smaller, adding just enough auspicious red for the traditional Chinese ceremony without sacrificing style.

Thank you Melissa for sharing with us the joy on the happiest day (yet).

Reyna Chinese knot Cheongsam for Felicia
Wearing the made-to-measure Amplified Reyna Cheongsam is Felicia who has kindly let us have a photo of her taken during one of the fittings.
(If you have been to our Centrepoint shop for fitting, do you recognize these fuchsia bow sandals on her feet, we think it is a perfect match.)

We crafted entirely by hand, the collar, sleeves and shoulder in a reimagined Chinese frog button, in one tone brighter in each of the three colours present of the imperial blue Chinese silk brocade with green and pink florals. The hand-crafted shoulder piece is hollow, it allows the natural skin tone to shine through but an entirely different style from the lace. Instead, together we created cheongsam that is fun, but not casual; formal but youthful. A truly modern Singapore take on tradition.
Also seen custom made for Annie in a grungy combination of pink, turquoise and beige.

Keyhole Lace Mini with Lace Applique for Sherlyn

Mini cheongsams, or some may say "those tiny-Chinese-dress", have 1 of the cuts customers keep coming back to Mazzario for. Slowly we realise we seem to have many, many petite customers. Whether slim or small built, our mini cheongsam is particularly flattering on the petite ladies.
This particular cheongsam custom made for Sherlyn with a very cut in halter collar which delicately hangs over the neck, and plunges low at the back, and just enough front slit for allure and movement. A little black lace in a very graphic circular print off sets the angular cut of the cheongsam.
This cutting is particularly flattering for the apple body type as well as the athletic column body type.

Red Evening Cheongsam with 2 Laces for Aileen

Crimson red is a colour between red and rose, originally produced from an insert which lends a bluish tint to the bright and deep red. There seems to be 2 camps when it comes to the colour red—Love or hate, need we elaborate? Recently there have been more brides opting for red cheongsams this year, then we have ever done before. Yes, we believe the colour is contagious.
Shown here is another red modern cheongsam custom made for Aileen. The cheongsam is super slim from hips down to elongate the legs and add length to the silhouette, complemented by a very low back covered in very sparse translucent black lace which is flattering to her athletic build. Further more, a second layer of thick bold and larger floral lace, also in black, in applied on top of the first layer of lace to accentuate the toned back, and visually enhance the front.
The 2 layers of lace really added dimension and textural quality to the plain crimson red fabric, and the 2 strong colours of red and black plays well with each other making this a real eye-catcher. For brides wo fear you may blend into your sea of guests, fear no more.

A photo of Aileen and her then-husband-to-be now-husband, in Mazzario's Chinese silk mandarin jacket . The black and light pink combination really picks up the crimson red of Aileen's cheongsam very well, which tells us they are a couple, yet individuals.
Last but not least, congrats to you both, we had a great time working with you.

Cheongsams for Chinese New Year Events in Singapore or any Summer
Chinese New Year is a tricky time to buy clothes for. Too formal, you don't know when you will use again, too informal, maybe it is better not to buy any.
Below is a selection of designs we feel are some great choices for this festive season.
ABI Lace & Cotton Keyhole Cheongsam - The lace lends a touch of glamour while the cotton balances the formality with everyday casualness.
TABBY - set of halter cheongsam top and wrap skirt is convenient enough for the 1st 2 days of running between relatives', also versatile enough to pair with jeans or a simple tube on other days.
A empire flare cheongsam silhouette hides a multitude of -- Chinese New Year goodies. Plus the cotton material is great for the forever scotching days of Singapore.
Talia Toga Cheongsam is our top pick for company dinner & dance during the Lunar New Year period or any Shanghai-themed event. Fun, funky & fashionable, without sacrificing comfort, or your wallet.

Cheongsam with a Train Looks a Little Like a Gown
Have you ever feared even a full length cheongsam isn't formal enough for the day on which you are the star of the show, and opted for a long gown with train instead to look better for march-in?
Beside our sexy super short mini cheongsams, our other popular length lies on the other end of the spectrum. A Mandarin Collar paired with a gown-like mermaid bottom, for the traditionalist is a violation, but a fuss-free solution for the busy modern bride.
A fusion as such yields a clean solution. The subtle mandarin collar addresses the cultural issues while a long train provides the visual impact needed for any formal event. Who needs another dress in a wardrobe full of clothes we convinced we need.

Two of our signature cuts in one. A sexy mini with long train. Only this one shaped like a spade to echo that of a phoenix's tail. After the mini cheongsam walked the aisle in the day, the train attaches to for visual arrest at wedding dinner.

Something less experimental such as this extend the contrast banding all the way to sit atop the low back making a bow, and a sash that forms part of the train too.

The bride who thinks most gowns are not simple enough and yet not enough grandeur inspired this stunning red cheongsam gown. With a simple opened mandarin collar and a widened and lengthened train in traffic stopping red, this simple cheongsam commands attention in even the most overwhelming of venues.

Shown above is another elegant combination of a cheongsam top paired with a gown-like flared skirt with semi chapel length train held together with a pleated sash with Mandarin knot buttons. The idea of a skirt detached in the future for use of the mini cheongsam alone for future occasions suits many practical, eco-friendly bride well.

Gold Chinese Silk Cheongsam with Gold Lace Overlay

For you who are familiar with Mazzario Cheongsam, you would know that Chinese Silk Brocade is one of our favorite fabrics to work with. Be it a classic Tea Dress with double trimming or the fashion-forward customer favourite Empire Halter Mini Cheongsam; the Talia Toga Cheongsam or the Mystic Corded Mini Cheongsam we constantly strive to revive the beautful traditional fabric to it's former glory.

Here comes the bride who just like almost every girl and even more so bride-to-be out there ( or here!), can't give up the love for the delicacy and glamour that lace fabric lends, even to a cheongsam.
Yet, a cheongsam carries with it the many burdens of its important role in Chinese period dramas and Wong Kar Wai's movie In The Mood For Love.

Of the greedy nature that we sometimes deny, we would not refuse combination of the two for this bridal cheongsam. Afterall, Singapore is all about fusion-everything. See for yourself how the golden lace overlay glimmers on the traditional cream coloured brocade with traditional florals. Fully lined in red just for that extra dose of Chinese auspiciousness, even on the inside.

Mystic Cheongsam With Hand Knotted Cords on Actual Wedding Day

Mystic Cheongsam has lived up to it's name since our first creation. The intricacy of the tedious handiwork of the cording as well as the visual impact has captivated the hearts of many modern edgy lady and bride to be alike.

Thank you Agnes for sending us your wonderful photos. The piece custom made for Agnes spots a different shape from the original to suit her figure. It has no side slits, and is tulip shaped to balance to winged tips of the cords.
If you have ever stared hard at your screen and tried to make out what the embossed pattern is made of, keep reading for the mystery to be revealed. Some of you who have visited us at our store at the Centrepoint might have caught us playing with large coils of straw-looking objects.

These are cords made from many very wide strips of Chinese silk brocade. They are them carefully twined to form the desired shapes—desirable shapes that accentuate desirable figure. They are then positioned and hand stitched to a completed cheongsam. The result is what you see, a captivating modern cheongsam that is unique and different from anything you have seen.
