Melissa in full length Lena Lace Applique cheongsam

Lena Lace Cheongsam previously blogged about in a shorter knee-length version is custom made for Melissa for her tea ceremony in full length. While the design remains unchanged, it is sleeker as the lace coverage is proportionally smaller, adding just enough auspicious red for the traditional Chinese ceremony without sacrificing style.

Red Evening Cheongsam with 2 Laces for Aileen

Aileen's crimson red mermaid cheongsam with 2 types of laces
Crimson red is a colour between red and rose, originally produced from an insert which lends a bluish tint to the bright and deep red. There seems to be 2 camps when it comes to the colour red—Love or hate, need we elaborate? Recently there have been more brides opting for red cheongsams this year, then we have ever done before. Yes, we believe the colour is contagious.

Shown here is another red modern cheongsam custom made for Aileen. The cheongsam is super slim from hips down to elongate the legs and add length to the silhouette, complemented by a very low back covered in very sparse translucent black lace which is flattering to her athletic build. Further more, a second layer of thick bold and larger floral lace, also in black, in applied on top of the first layer of lace to accentuate the toned back, and visually enhance the front.

The 2 layers of lace really added dimension and textural quality to the plain crimson red fabric, and the 2 strong colours of red and black plays well with each other making this a real eye-catcher. For brides wo fear you may blend into your sea of guests, fear no more.

Couple in mandarin attire

A photo of Aileen and her then-husband-to-be now-husband, in Mazzario's Chinese silk mandarin jacket . The black and light pink combination really picks up the crimson red of Aileen's cheongsam very well, which tells us they are a couple, yet individuals.

Last but not least, congrats to you both, we had a great time working with you.

Chinese New Year is a tricky time to buy clothes for. Too formal, you don't know when you will use again, too informal, maybe it is better not to buy any.

Cheongsam with a Train Looks a Little Like a Gown

Have you ever feared even a full length cheongsam isn't formal enough for the day on which you are the star of the show, and opted for a long gown with train instead to look better for march-in?

Beside our sexy super short mini cheongsams, our other popular length lies on the other end of the spectrum. A Mandarin Collar paired with a gown-like mermaid bottom, for the traditionalist is a violation, but a fuss-free solution for the busy modern bride.

A fusion as such yields a clean solution. The subtle mandarin collar addresses the cultural issues while a long train provides the visual impact needed for any formal event. Who needs another dress in a wardrobe full of clothes we convinced we need.

Wedding Cheongsam Gown—for Dawn
Two of our signature cuts in one. A sexy mini with long train. Only this one shaped like a spade to echo that of a phoenix's tail. After the mini cheongsam walked the aisle in the day, the train attaches to for visual arrest at wedding dinner.

Bow Tied Halter Cheongsam with Sweeping Train
Something less experimental such as this extend the contrast banding all the way to sit atop the low back making a bow, and a sash that forms part of the train too.

Red Mermaid Open Mandarin Collar Cheongsam Train 2
The bride who thinks most gowns are not simple enough and yet not enough grandeur inspired this stunning red cheongsam gown. With a simple opened mandarin collar and a widened and lengthened train in traffic stopping red, this simple cheongsam commands attention in even the most overwhelming of venues.

Wedding Pink Lace Cream White Cheongsam—For Eileen
Shown above is another elegant combination of a cheongsam top paired with a gown-like flared skirt with semi chapel length train held together with a pleated sash with Mandarin knot buttons. The idea of a skirt detached in the future for use of the mini cheongsam alone for future occasions suits many practical, eco-friendly bride well.

Wedding Cheongsam—for Dawn

Wedding Cheongsam Gown—for Dawn
Kwa—a jacket and skirt set with exquisite gold and silver thread, fitted loosely on the Cantonese bride—is treasured as priceless work of art. Today, however, it is used more as heirloom or art collection than for practical use as apparel.

Dawn was mesmerized by the intricate gold & silver thread Cantonese embroidery but a boxy set of Kwa wouldn't do her enviable figure justice.

We had the set of dragon & phoenix embroidered specially for her, and then hand stitched the cut out to her simple cream white mini halter dress. Sitting on a near transparent mesh, the life-like dragon is a visually arresting.

The short mini halter dress is casual and laid back enough for daytime tea ceremony, and for night, hook on the long train with spade shaped end, resembling the phoenix tail for the grand entrance. Detached again anytime after the wedding for other semi-formal occasions in the future.

In all, this is a everything but the kitchen sink for a bride who can't bear missing the world for her wedding.

Wedding Cheongsam Gown—for Jessica

Red & Gold Brocade Mermaid Gown with Gold Lace Applique
Red & Gold Brocade Mermaid Gown with Gold Lace Applique
Many modern Asian Chinese brides are torn between tradition customs and urban lifestyle preference. They often settle for a gown less than satisfactory giving in to either side. Always optimistic, we helped Jessica and her family's expectations meet half-way.

While simple and sleek silhouette is her ideal, she feared her mother prefers traditional (Read: Red & gold sleeved full length cheongsam). Here at Mazzario we would not let you walk away depressed and old-fashioned.

We suggested a bright red gold and red Chinese Brocade fabric to be made into a simple silhouette, with additional lace applique, both to add sparkles as well as to visually slim the torso. The lace up keyhole back has room for adjustments, and makes for a cute bow at the back. The mermaid flare starts centre front at a v-point, and moves up gradually to mid-thigh at the back, creating curves while slimming the thighs.

Diamond Cheongsam Halter Version for Carol

Diamond Cheongsam Halter version
Diamond Cheongsam Halter version

The DIAMOND Cheongsam has long been one of the most sought-after designs not without it's reasons. The cutting, the colour combinations, and the demure front and surprise back view has very broad appeal.

Carol is lanky and has good upper body formation. No wonder she prefers a halter version, with lower neckline, fitted even tighter than the usual snug.

The thick embroidery lace hides a multitude of flaws, especially that below the waist. The tightness enhances the corset effect given by our signature cut and tailoring.

Do not trust us when we tell you a good cheongsam or a custom qipao does wonders, believe only your eyes, and of course, the compliments.

Colourful Cloud Cheongsam for Stacy

Colourful Cloud Cheongsam for Stacy

Tradition and fun are not words that usually comes together. They however, mix very well in The Colour Cloud Cheongsam custom made to Stacy's wedding. Adventurous Stacy wanted to have a traditional qipao or cheongsam from the start, because she can't think of a better time to check off her wish list, yet, she frowns at the idea of granny's wardrobe.

She took a daring plunge into the choice of a very colourful chinese brocade. We then decided to make full use of the wonder cloud prints. Combined with a traditional way of enclosure, collar to waist over the bust, but with a twist. We cut around the clouds at the opening and at the hemline, then layered them one upon another, and then painstakingly piped them using the tradition Chinese technique. The sleeves were also made in layers, to echo the idea of clouds, as well as slimming the arms.To finish, we used the only colour of the rainbow that does not already exist on the fabric together with shimmering gold for the cording details.

Look at Stacy. She's so excited she couldn't still her hands. P.S. Check out her shoes. We have not seen a better match.

Ready-to-Wear Cheongsam Collection

cheongsam collection

Use of Venetian-style Lace, texturized monotone Chinese brocade, metallic checks, gunmetal knit, all these seemingly unrelated fabric styles Mazzario has put together in the new ready-to-wear collection.

Silhouettes are still slim, with with a new ease that is quite unlike the skin-tight-fit we have been doing for so long. A contemporary cheongsam piece in liquid metal comes ruched and wrapped, the heavily paneled bustier looks every bit corset but is comfortable with elasticity.

In a palette of blue, red, champagne, and black, grey, white, there is a cheongsam for even casual days.

Wedding Cheongsam - Olida

Cheongsams for Wedding - Olida
Black is one of the most favored dress colour of all times, by women of all ages, and cultures, so much so there is an acronym LBD dedicated just to the specific fashion preference. Women of Chinese ethnicity are no exception—until the wedding day when any association with the word "black" is inauspicious.

Thankfully most mothers have lightened up and would still attend her daughter's wedding as long as she isn't black head-to-toe. And the bride says, " Look, Ma, it's a Chinese Cheongsam, surely I can have a little black flowers on it."

Another black/ red wedding cheongsam for your inspiration.

Wedding Cheongsam - Lucia

wedding cheongsam red lace group
One of the most sought after wedding cheongsam, Lucia is a red lace on pink open mandarin collar capsleeve design. Available in straight cut floor length, sweeping train mermaid, or mini mermaid.

The heavy weight embroidery lace does a great job in hugging those curves while hiding the flaws. Open front collar gives the option of both open or closed for different occasions. The simplicity of the design simply underlines sophistication and elegance.

Available made to order in other colour combinations. Please email us for enquiries.

22.4.10

Wedding Cheongsam - Othelia

Wedding Cheongsam is one of our sought after categories. We have put together a series of recommendations for different wedding events.

Othelia
The opened high mandarin collar is popular with the bride looking for a modern and slender look. The high mandarin collar maintains the Chinese style without sacrificing comfort.

The The special hemline drapes in front and falls to a smooth fan at the back. Sweeping train provides just enough glamour for the formal night events such as the banquet. Partial lace applique introduces texture to the otherwise smooth cheongsam, accentuating curves. Additional detachable extra long sash highlights the waist and gives a better view 'going out'.

Available made to order, also in other colours.

Wedding Cheongsam - Thelia

Mandarin Collar Tulle Gown w Brocade Bodice & Sequin Waist Band

The client was clear about not having a white gown for her wedding. Unlike most Chinese parents, black was not discouraged, ironically they were adamant on having a bit of Chinese festivity in the bridal cheongsam gown.

Torn between the cool goth style the bride was after, and the festive element required by the parents, we wove the two together, and even threw in the number one Chinese-auspicious colour—Gold.

The frothiness of the shimmering black tulle skirt balances the tight fitting sexy red brocade bodice, furthermore, the tulle overlay at the empire level creates a more slimming illusion. Finally the whole gown is literally pulled together with the criss-cross shimmering gold waist band.

To complement the body-con gown is a tailored minimalist cut angular texturized mandarin collar jacket for covering the bride in her wedding cheongsam both in and out of the wedding venue, and to match her casual apparel thereafter.
